One of the reasons we started Matsikoudis & Fanciullo was to use litigation to improve the environment. Since we founded our firm, we have successfully compelled numerous polluters to remediate multiple contaminated sites.
We have successfully worked with experts across various subject areas to obtain results for our clients and the environment.
For example, years before the promulgation of almost any enforceable PFAS standards, on behalf of a tiny non-profit, Matsikoudis & Fanciullo initiated a groundbreaking lawsuit against a host of Fortune 500 companies that had discharged tens-of-thousands of tons of PFAS into the Tennessee River over the course of a half-century in and around Decatur, Alabama. As a consequence of the Firm’s ultimate settlement of this matter – which only occurred after its attorneys resoundingly repelled multiple efforts by their adversaries to dismiss and delay the case – Matsikoudis & Fanciullo now actively oversees the development and implementation of remedial measures by the responsible parties. These clean-up efforts will ultimately abate PFAS contamination in a roughly 50-mile stretch of the Tennessee River and countless tributaries, from the soil of and groundwater beneath more than 1,000 acres of highly-polluted industrial land abutting the River, and at and about more than a dozen off-site areas located throughout the greater Decatur area.
Matsikoudis & Fanciullo has been involved in the Decatur PFAS litigation and its attendant settlement implementation for nearly a decade, and, across that time, the Firm’s attorneys have developed a relationships with the leading experts on PFAS as well as highly nuanced understanding of the problems and challenges various PFAS analytes create.
Matsikoudis & Fanciullo has also proudly represented cities like Newark, a small, start-up non-profit group in Ocean City, New Jersey, and established non-profit organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County in major environmental matters where we obtained successful outcomes for our clients. Whether it’s compelling remediation to open the way for the development of a former industrial area in the inner city, compelling removal of toxins near a childcare facility, or negotiating an agreement to require the remediation of pollutants that represented a risk to human health and sea life, Matsikoudis & Fanciullo has and continues to fight for a healthier environment one case at a time.
